Sketch dump Wednesday ep. 8

Man was last Saturday beautiful, so much so, my daughter was going hog shit crazy being cooped up in the house.  Even though the piece that I was working on was only 45% done, I had to stop working because she was like a wild chihuahua that needed to go pee, quite annoying. Oh well, kids will be kids and she really needed the time to play outside. It’s time to take off my art hat and put on my Dad hat. So glad I did though because I had a ball at the park!

Picking up my Linkin Park side bag filled with my accouterments, I hoisted the strap over my head and onto my shoulders, bag – check kid – check… ohh my head phones and mp3 player. My Philips folding headphones were nestled snug around my ears as I go through one more final check to make sure I had everything and a few seconds later my kid and I were on our way out the door. As we’re walking out my kid was steadily chattering on… about what? I don’t know; what d’you think the head phones were for?

The accouterments referred to earlier were my art supplies and my canvas sketch book. My sketch book has a really bad skull on the front cover and a figure on the back – my attempts at being “unique”.  This book has been with me for the last three years… what’s that?…  Three years to fill a sketch book?  All the talk around here about being serious? Well considering I have 4 more sketch books and stacks of ditto paper, I draw quite frequently.  Anyway back to my journey; my seven year old darted ahead of me on her scooter while yours truly slowly surveyed the surroundings and realized that I haven’t been outside in a week and a half. The sky almost seemed bluer and there was this perfect breeze; couple that with the big smile on my kid’s face, it couldn’t have been much more of a perfect day.

So we are at the park and everyone’s out and about, grammas, grandpas, moms, dads and kids… lots of kids who by the way make the best models when gesture drawing.   Kids – they are so expressive in their movement and they have a lot of energy especially my little one. I scramble for my bag quickly grabbing my pad and …”scratch!” there’s a skip in the record, that skip was my little girl doing what she does best… interrupting me! Before ever making contact with the paper I hear Dad, dad, DAD! “Ok honey I hear you, yes I will take you over to the monkey bars” I said. Once there, she was off and playing and now it was time for me to play! I took out my pad again and began drawing. There where kids on the monkey bars and old Jewish men talking, they always make for good drawing and this Asian kid with a skate board was fascinating! I was in awe at how wonderfully exciting the mundane things of life could be so exciting! Before I show you my sketches, I just want to point out that you should take time to enjoy even the mundane things, it makes for some pretty cool sketching time.  I know pretty short, well that’s all I have to say today; see you Friday!

Also I’m doing this warm up in the morning with little whimsical characters, check them out you will enjoy them.

Thanks for checking me out!

Be on the look out for coffee stained doodles – a sketch book by yours truly.. hey I got to eat too… so if you’re enjoying the site, you’ll love the sketch book when its done… make sure to pick it up!
